CONDUCTING COURSE & COMPETITION 2011
(Application Download here)
July 11th- July 21st, 2011
The Conducting Symposium provides training and practical experience to enable
conductors to competently handle any conducting situation, to help instrumentalists
meet the many demands of orchestral playing, and offers an intense environment to learn
a difficult and varied repertoire over the course of its 10 day program. Conducting Course & Competition
Each Student is receives equal podium time an performance experience culminating in concerts in the Stelzen Festival Music Barn and a final concert with symposium students competing for placement in the final orchestral concert.
All musicians are full-time, active participants. All conductors receive weekly rehearsal time on the podium and perform in concert, at the discretion of the music director. All conductors are also required to play in the orchestra. This unique aspect of the school gives conductors the opportunity to learn from both sides of the podium, fostering a positive, non-competitive environment in which conductors and instrumentalists work and learn together. The school accepts approximately eighteen conductors.
Each week's schedule includes seven symphony masterclass rehearsals and both symphonic and chamber music concerts conducted and performed by participating musicians.
